ICAROUS (Independent Configurable Architecture for Reliable Operations of Unmanned Systems) is a software architecture designed to facilitate the safe and robust integration of mission-specific and core software modules for autonomous unmanned aircraft operations. Notable features include formal verification of safety algorithms, obstacle detection and avoidance, and autonomous maneuver execution, all implemented through NASA's core Flight Systems middleware. The framework also integrates NASA's DAIDALUS and PolyCARP packages for advanced detect and avoid alerts and geofencing capabilities.
